Brooke Hatala is a singer, songwriter, guitarist from Raleigh North Carolina who now resides in Nashville TN. She is a student at Belmont University while pursuing her music career full time.
Brooke is not new to performing, she had her first solo gig at age 11 which has grown to bigger events over the past 8 years. Brooke opened up for Willie Nelson at the Booth Amphitheater in Cary, NC at the age of 15. Brooke also was a contestant on The Voice Season 12, earning a blind audition, and was one of the youngest contestants ever. Other notable performances include the National Anthem in Oklahoma City in June 2016 for the Women's College World Series Championship games for a crowd of over 13,000 and at a Duke Men's basketball game for over 9,000 in the famous Cameron indoor stadium. At the young age of 13, Brooke sang at the Rascal Flatt’s concert "meet and greet" in Raleigh at Coastal Credit Union Music Park at Walnut Creek, and at 14 she performed on the VIP stage before the Keith Urban concert. Brooke was featured on WRAL TV as an "Artist to watch" along with WQDR 94.7 featuring Brooke in the Homegrown Carolina series and playing her songs on the radio.
What is your earliest memory of music? And, how did you get started in music?
My earliest memory of music is singing along to the radio as a kid and watching my older brother learn the guitar. Seeing my brother play the guitar inspired me to pick one up myself and start taking lessons at the age of 8 years old. Soon after, my parents bought me a karaoke machine where I would sing along to Taylor Swift songs all day. By ten, I was singing to the guitar and starting to write my own music and performing out at coffee shops and open mics.
What was the first song you ever wrote? What or who inspired you to start writing music?
The first song I ever wrote was called "Forever." I was about ten years old when I wrote this one and it was inspired by my supportive parents who I always knew would be there for me and love me forever.
Do you play any instruments? If yes tell us about it. If not, do you work with a band or studio musicians? Do you produce your tracks or work with a producer?
I play the acoustic/electric guitar and was inspired by my older brother Connor. He started taking guitar lessons and I thought it was the coolest thing so I followed in his footsteps. I am currently working with multiple producers who track my music and bring out my unique sound.
What is your favorite part about being an artist (performing, recording, writing, playing)?
My favorite part about being an artist is taking my feelings/emotions and creating music that can express where I'm at in life and writing songs that have a positive meaning and can inspire others. Performing is one of my favorite things to do as an artist. The feeling I get while playing on stage makes me know this is my true passion and where I'm meant to be.
Do you have any advice for young women pursuing music?
My advice for young women pursuing a music career is to stay true to your values and who you are. Work and surround yourself with people who truly believe in you and want the best for your career.
What do you think your strengths are as an artist?
I think that one of my strengths as an artist is the unique, raspy tone in my voice. I like to write real and vulnerable songs that portray emotion in my music.
