Review by Patrick Joseph & Staff

“Can’t Believe” is a powerfully emotional piece of music. The opening vocal harmonies are transformative and gripping. The music sounds gothic, almost chantlike until an expressive rhythm section establishes a new backdrop and the song evolves into a melodic, reserved section.
Constant musical evolution and expert performances carry this piece, which is a show-stopper of a compositional statement, expertly crafted to deliver a perspective on depression. The vocal performance is dynamic…Brade shows an expertise and firm command over a variety of vocal styles in this piece.
Lyrically, “Can’t believe” is solemn and poetic. Themes of depression and the various mental states associated with it are explored with an intriguing lens. “I can’t believe it, This heart has been bleeding all this time, They told me to leave it, but I’m too naïve to let it die.” The nature of the musical accompaniment is inseparable from the lyrical content. Together the music and lyrics tell this music’s true story. “This pain that’s defined me has made me deny that mistakes can be made in time.” The earnest nature of the vocal delivery elevates these lyrics.
The arrangement of “Can’t Believe” is intricate and wonderful. The explosive third movement is cathartic and electrifying. The long buildup toward the brutal rhythmic shifts and hardcore sounds is wonderful and takes listeners on a specific journey reflective of the thematic structure. The song hits a full “Black Metal” stride before cascading once again into a reserved place of expression. The peaks and valleys of this song don’t just present listeners with two contrasting sections, but continuously evolve from one place to another, as in a symphony. This powerful music is meticulously and deliberately constructed and expertly performed. Allow yourself to take the dark ride with “Can’t Believe” and experience the intense emotional journey with Brande.
