Jerome Lee - "New Amsterdam Groove"

Review by Francesca Londono &Staff

"New Amsterdam Groove" is a new groovy tune by Jerome Lee that takes you back to the 80s while keeping things fresh and exciting. This instrumental masterpiece kicks it off with an extravagant horn section but before that, the bass slides in to set the vibe. Different synthesizers come in, transporting you to an extra dimension. The percussion in "New Amsterdam Groove" is unique, offering up excellent Latin elements while complimenting the bassline perfectly. A killer guitar solo comes on playing some very detailed notes. Then the synthesizers have their time to shine. The different arpeggios and pads all coordinate so perfectly with their dreaminess. Then what sounds like a smooth guitar, with a lower and richer tone, takes a solo. It has such an exciting tone that, at first, I thought it was a synth bass, but it is actually the undeniably silky sounds of Jerome Lee on bass. Finally, the horn section joins in making an extravaganza for the ears.

From jazz to funk to bossa, "New Amsterdam Groove" also has experimental elements that give it a unique flavor. There is never a dull moment.

The piece ends with some gorgeous round atmospheric pads sustaining a lush chord that makes you feel like you are levitating. Overall this tune is one for the books. It's groovy; it's intricate; it's expressive. "New Amsterdam Groove" is a perfect song to listen to on a long night's walk.
