Review by Nico Low
Kevin Lee & the Kings' new song "Wind it Up" is a pumping, exhilarating rock tune. The mastery over their craft is immediately evident in this record as they come blasting out of the gate with a powerful guitar hook leading into the first verse. The drums put the song into overdrive and make the song feel epic. The background vocal harmonies accentuate the melody perfectly in the first verse and hit hard in the chorus. All of these, in tandem with Kevin's genuine performance on lead vocals, give the song infectious energy!
The lyrics have just as much of an impact. They feel motivating, driving, and just as strong as the arrangement.
"I spend my whole life trying, trying to win a distant prize, couldn't find a silver lining, so I'm in overdrive."
Everyone knows what it's like to be down and out and in the worst position. The last line, 'being in overdrive,' is the kind of mindset that speaks volumes. The chorus is incredibly catchy and nails the classic rock hook. "Wind it up, when the time is right, when you've had enough." It is such a flood of power.
The song comes together so perfectly and shows how radio-ready rock should sound. Look no further if you're looking for a hard-hitting rock song with a classic vibe and modern production. The unwavering skill of the band, the amazing guitar solo, great background vocals, and a perfect lead vocalist all culminate in a song that feels like being revved up and ready to give anything your all.
