Everybody has a different how we met story. For some people, it’s the classic romance, a picture-perfect tale of innocence. For others, they may meet their soulmates when they’re not-so-perfect; some love stories start where someone may realize they need to make a change for the better. This Valentine’s Day, singer-songwriter Sarah Harralson reflected on her own love story to give a heartfelt love ballad about being the best you can be for the one you call home. Cowritten with Bill DiLuigi and produced by Johnny Therrien, Whiskey History might have you shedding a tear or two.
We’re met with a plucked acoustic guitar and Harralson’s lilting voice, describing the night our main character meets her lover in a smoke-filled bar at last call. The drums power into the chorus, Harralson chants about her slowly forgotten “whiskey history” as she reminisces on days long past. In the second verse, she serenades her beau, the “best buzz” there is, and we float into another chorus. A bridge and a chorus later, the song winds down slowly but surely into a peaceful, bittersweet finish.

Harralson has captured a type of nostalgia that can only be understood by partners who have seen it all. Anyone who has been through hardship and has been pulled from the depths knows that it takes a special someone to be a guiding light in the darkness. Harralson has created a beautiful testament to that this season of love and won’t be leaving a dry eye in the house.

“Sarah Harralson presents honest, bare-boned recordings that are authentic,” stated Music Connection Magazine after hearing her debut singer-songwriter EP, Finally Found, in 2014. Eight years into her Nashville music career, Sarah is making waves in the music industry. She released her debut country EP, Watered Down Whiskey, in February 2018 under Scotty Schultz (Shooter Jennings). Besides being a singer-songwriter, she also co-produced a collaborative album, West of Me, with artist, Christine Bauer. This Knoxville native is currently writing and working with Johnny Garcia (Garth Brooks) under his company, Busy at Play publishing. In 2020, she released three new singles, “Put a Rock on This Rolling Stone”, “Get Lost in Some Rock ‘N Roll”, and “Frosty”. In 2021, she was invited to become a member of The Recording Academy and released her new singles, “The Chance”, “Love on Lease (Reimagined)”, and “Bottom of the Glass”. Her new album, Whiskey History, is out on February 18th. When she is not writing, recording, or playing shows in Nashville, Sarah volunteers with Musicians On Call to bring music to patients’ bedsides. She is a big believer that music heals.
