Woven Green is an alternative folk-rock group known for their uplifting and inspirational songs. The duo are husband and wife team, Jim and Ashley Cash. Jim is a songwriter and multi-instrumentalist while Ashley captivates listeners with her powerful voice, guitar playing and percussion. Woven Green has been performing their music throughout the DC Metro areas for over 10 years now. Their album, ‘Into Bloom,’ showcases both their musical talent and their ability to connect listeners to the spiritual and sacred elements of nature.
The first track off the album, “Breaking Free,” is a strong start. You are greeted by an up-tempo drum beat accompanied by a melodic acoustic guitar line and flourishes from the electric guitar. The engaging instrumentals are only bolstered by the beautiful melodies of the vocals. The chorus is strong with a memorable hook that shows off Ashley’s voice. “Great Spirit Move Me, I’m filled up again. Great Spirit do what you will of me.” This inspirational song is about getting back on your feet again after you have stumbled and awakening to the beauty within and around you.
Next up is “The Call.” This song changes up the energy with an intricate acoustic guitar line and a captivating drum beat that you can really groove to. "The Call" features multiple acoustic instrumental sections and solos that boast the skilled musicianship of Woven Green. Vocal harmonies during the chorus create a nice timbre between the duo. “The Call” captures the healing power of nature. “Underneath the waterfall. Dancing waves of ecstasy. Feel it rush all over you. And the healing will begin. To lay these burdens down. So we may see again.”
The third track is “Slow it Down.” It starts off with a beautiful acoustic guitar line which is joined by a harmonica then the drums lead us into the first verse. Jim and Ashley harmonize brilliantly together, creating interesting melodies that easily captivate. This easy-going song sends good vibes and compliments the album with a change of pace and mood. After “Slow it Down” is “Ghost Dance.” In "Ghost Dance" an acoustic riff is soon joined by mesmerizing flute lines and a pulsing kick drum that somewhat mimic the sound of a native drum circle. Once again, this song is a great example of the groups’ ability to change their style and deliver unique musical experiences from song to song. This chant-like song is sure to entrance audiences making a fantastic addition to the album. The lyrics are equally inviting, “Come all nations, come all tribes, from the flesh of the earth, To the cities in the sky… we are ready, we are ready, to spread the seeds of love and peace on earth”
Woven Green has proven that they can write high energy songs that pull listeners into a groove and with their song, “Holiday,” they show they can also write a killer ballad. Slowing down the tempo, this song kicks off with a gorgeous acoustic guitar instrumental that perfectly eases you into the mood of the song while soft harmonies shine through the sparse arrangement to create a soothing timbre. This engaging ballad is sure to be a fan favorite of the album. The lyrics are colorful and poetic, drawing from the serenity of nature. You can fill your senses with the duo’s lyrical descriptions: a babbling stream, sweet juniper, red spruce pine, meadow flowers and misty rain.
Last but not least, is “Returning Home,” another strong song off the album. "Returning Home" has layers of acoustic guitar accompanied by melodic flute lines. Ashley graces the track with a powerful voice and shimmering vibrato that strikes at your core. Featuring maracas and rain-sticks, this song displays a beautiful soundscape that showers over its listeners creating a music experience that envelopes you like a welcomed blanket.
