“Mr Santa” packs a punch that delivers holiday cheer by way of a truckload of gritty swing. A seriously killer band and a track produced by Bob McGilpin, puts everything right where it should be to underscore Picerno’s stylish and classically cool vocal delivery.
A holiday song with lots of swagger is always a treat, and “Mr Santa” serves up a red hot groove and a catchy chorus that will have you singing along. An excellent combination of styles, this song lives somewhere at the crossroads of timeless country and classic R&B.
Lyrically, “Mr Santa” is an ode to lovers. “When you smile and look at me, everyday is a holiday” Picerno is confident and relaxed in her vocal style, which makes these lyrics even more comforting. “Mr Santa, I’m yours forever dear, you’re the best gift that god has given, I just love you near.” This song takes the familiar sentiment of a holiday song and turns it on its head, offering a fresh perspective: “Keep the Mistletoe…You’re my Mr Santa, every day of the year.” If the Holidays are for reflecting and enjoying life, then let everyday be a holiday.
A real steamroller of a song, “Mr Santa” is the perfect score to dance around the house with your loved one and make the season bright. The band sounds huge on this track, with a lively rhythm section and a perfectly interwoven guitar, piano, and sax lines. All of the playing is upper-echelon while maintaining a “fun” feeling. The instrumental prowess is a fantastic counterpart to Picerno’s laid back, but energetic style. Overtly well done, “Mr Santa” feels simultaneously classic and fresh.
