Kate Magdalena - 'Streets of Any Town'

Kate Magdalena's song, "Streets of Any Town," can be found on BWH Music Group's 'Keepin' It Country, Vol. One.' The compilation album offers 17 songs by today's rising independent contemporary country artists. Kate Magdalena is a recording artist and songwriter from San Francisco who writes “Timely Americana.” Off her upcoming album, 'A Larger Dance,' the single "Streets of Any Town” is a moving song about homelessnes. The song was recorded and produced by GRAMMY-nominated-producer Billy Smiley (Johnny Cash, Whiteheart, Clay Aiken, and the Newsboys) and feature some of Nashville's finest musicians with Fred Eltringham(The Wallflowers and Sheryl Crow), Byron House (Robert Plant and the Band of Joy), Blair Masters (Garth Brooks) and Brennan Smiley (The Technicolors).  Kate Magalena's song "Streets of Any Town" was inspired by her encounter with a homeless man. The song travels through the man's story. His family wrote him off. His friends turned a blind eye. He suffered from mental illness or perhaps addiction and wound up on the streets. Kate's voice is pristine as she sings the story against a vibrant, contemporary folk landscape. A key moment is heard in the bridge section when Kate shifts gears from the man's story to the passerby's story:

"I walk on by, I glance at him, I turn my head away. I want to say something, want to make it right, but I don't know what to say."

Kate's song goes on to tell the story of another homeless, poor man - Jesus. She draws parallel's between the man on any street and Jesus's message of compassion. "Jesus said you would find him in the least of you." Kate isn't just singing about a social issue - she is sharing her experience and perhaps her own transformation on that day. Transformation is at the heart of the song - it is not about changing the heart of the homeless man, it is about changing the heart of the passerby.

BWH Music Group hopes to hear much more music by Kate Magdalena and you will feel the same after your hear her music and it's message.

On a personal note, which I don't do often, I live in Albuquerque, New Mexico. We have one of the highest rates of homelessness in the U.S. I've even heard folks call it an "apocalypse" as prescription drug addiction is rampant in ABQ. I see countless homeless people, every day, pushing their belongings in grocery carts in the blisstering heat. If you are reading this review, please share it. Kate has offered a song with a simple idea, and it's worth sharing - kindness.
