A low and resonating drone, similar to the mystery and majesty of a Gregorian chant, along with a flute melody played on a MIDI guitar, commence Les Fradkin's "System Crash." Listeners will hear the influence of classical music; the flowing introduction is reminescent of the opening of Johann Sebestian Bach's 4rth Lute Suite. Fradkin enters singing, "Someday in a dim twilight, find an old flashlight, get new eyesight ,someday. Someday when the time is right, claim an old birthright, get new hindsight, someday. Sometime when we grow to know, gotta make a change things move too slow."
Fradkin's vocal performance is subdued blending perfectly with the weaving intricacies of the song's composition. Lyrically, "System Crash" plays like a theater performance telling the story of a future time period that eerily resembles today's chaotic pandemic; yet, the song was written in 2003. The piece examins a failed system with themes of lost hope, economic despair, a "God-like Boss", and people rising up in song.
Ater the melodic introduction, tension builds with full orchestration, percussion, and angelic choirs, all produced by the nimble and disciplined fingers of Fradkin who is a MIDI guitar virtuoso. Large, rolling timpani drums add to the excitement with a sound that could fill a symphony hall. Wailing solos cut through like a rock God.
In "System Crash" Les Fradkin demonstrates that he is a true artist in every sense of the word. From the visionary lyrics, to the full-scale composition that coud fill Symphony Hall, along with multiple vocal layering, this song keeps listeners ears locked in and on the edge of their seats. This is music that mezmerizes with elements of rock, pop, theater, and synth; listeners experience more than a song - they experience a masterpiece.
