MonkeyRat - Get Into the Light

Review by Pat Joseph & Staff

Music can influence, and even change, people, movements, and society. Sharing songs about peace and social justice, ultimately reminds the world of the importance of peace, fairness, love and unity. MonkeyRat's song "Get Into the Light" is one of the amazing songs that will be featured on BWH Music Group and World National Indie Radio (WNIR) 'Songs For Change' radio special during the month of November.

“Get Into the Light” is immediately fun. Any song that begins with a solo triangle pattern has my attention. Eclectic, refined, and thoughtfully composed, this song presents so many offerings and does so many things well. Off the bat a rhythmic riff sits underneath a down-beat guitar pattern and creates an energy and a tension over which the song can grow. An outstanding band delivers intricately arranged rhythmic hits while never loosening the feel of the song. During verses, virtuosic bass lines and aggressive guitar melodies compliment a confident hip-hop vocal. This explodes into a hooky, repetitive chorus that pays dividends.

Lyrically, “Get Into the Light” takes the mainstream music industry to task: “Music business wants control make u wanna sell your soul It's no longer rock n' roll All they want is mind control Going down the rabbit hole.” It seems that “the light” in this song is indicative of “enlightenment” or simply thinking for one’s self: “Plopping on your TV set Massive mind control reset…U gotta to fight the fight - get into the light.”

There’s no two ways around it, MonkeyRat knocked it out of the park with this one. “Get Into the Light” has such an interesting and fresh sound. A diverse background of influences and contributions create something new and beautiful. A super hip vocal and drum break, brilliantly composed hits and riffs, and huge vocal performances continually present musical offerings and result in a song which is invigorating and refreshing.
