Canadian artist Sohayla Smith is an award-winning singer-songwriter. Sohayla won the 2018 Clouzine International Music Award for "Best Country Recording" with her song "Burn it to the Ground" and her band was nominated for a 2017 TIMA for "Best Country." Her single "Bridges" was a Roots Grand Prize Winner, awarded first place in the Americana category. "The Breakdown" was the November 2017 Pop Winner on OurStage where she is currently at the top of their Best Country Artists charts.
"Burn it to the Ground" fuses Americana, folk, country, and blue-grass. Starting at the beginning, "Burn it to the Ground" heats up the intro with vocals (sans instrumentation) that enter on the ultra catchy chorus. Singing in layers, the vocals are fantastic. After the first guitar strums, the layers of plucking, finger-picking, twangy leads and foot-tapping percussion will have you clapping along. Sohayla has mastered the art of building up to a chorus as the song drives forward and the chorus stands out like a firecracker in the night sky.
The song is about putting the flame out on a bad relationship, stomping it out, and rising from the ashes -it can easily catch fire with Americana fans everywhere.
