Review By Matt Wong & Staff
“Jack Russell” is an Americana song by The Happy Curmudgeons. The song begins with an intro figure played by acoustic guitar and bass, before launching into it's catchy country two time feel with the drums.
With the first chorus, Dave Hamilton’s energetic vocal takes over, and along with the drums and bass, immediately gets listeners hooked and tapping their feet.
The first interlude features tasty harmonica playing by Tumbleweed, and a second interlude following the second chorus features a musical conversation between the harmonica, and Jim Moose Brown on piano. Takashi Lio, and Mark Byerly do a fantastic job holding down the groove on bass, and drums.
The lyrics in “Jack Russell” are about a fictional bounty hunter that finally learns his lesson the hard way. A “good, ole fun song,” the song includes lyrics such as,
“Old Jack Russell was a real crude dude, nothing in the world he wouldn’t do, and when it came to business he was very shrewd.”
“Jack Russell” by the Happy Curmudgeons is an entertaining song and story wrapped up in one, performed by a top-notch band. From the first notes, listeners will clapping their hands and tapping their feet. Along with their excellent musicianship, the band’s talent for amusing and enjoyable lyrics that keep your ear on the edge of it's seat has enabled them to create a unique sound within the Americana music idiom.
