“I Wish I Was Wrong” is a single by The Reverent. The song begins with a solo electric
guitar intro, with flute trills and hi-hat hits sprinkled in to add color to the hook. The vocals come in with the verse, and are joined by bass and drums. The intro hook returns as an interlude after the first chorus, beefed up this time by the bass providing low end support. The song reaches its dynamic climax in subsequent choruses, before pulling back in the last chorus with a simple but effective instrumentation of vocals, guitar, and bass. The song ends with one final re-statement of the intro hook.
The song’s lyrics are a message to make listeners aware of their impact on world we live
in. With lyrics such as “I see water rising from the ocean,” and “I see fire burning down the cities we’ve built” in the first verse, the band is trying to emphasize the seriousness of the troubling environmental climate. In the second verse, the band highlights the destruction caused by constant conflict, and sings of bombs “falling on the innocent,” and “children running for their lives again.”
