Review by Abby Kenna & Staff
“Slay” by TL Jones is the sound of confidence, bursting with vivid synths, striking percussion, and stacks of vocals full of personality.
“Slay” kicks off with a bold synth, demanding full attention of listeners with its deliberate rhythmic placement. The track builds up in layers, each new instrument adding another spike in energy to the upbeat introduction. Driving electronic drums, claps, percussive keyboards, and echoing adlibs filter in, creating a diversely textured soundscape to surround the rich lead vocals.
Accentuating the title line, the instrumentals pull back as TL Jones confidently raps: “I know you mad, cause I always slay”. Punchy and articulate in its rhythmic nature, Jones’ voice almost acts as another layer of percussion in the mix. Her fluid shifts in syncopation constantly keep listeners engaged and energized, contrasting the more stable electronic drum lines.
With clever prosody, the arrangement suddenly drops out and a sample of breathing fills the mix as TL Jones sings:
"I'll let the beat breathe
Give it a little break
Call it a reprieve”
These moments of spunk and spirit let TL Jones’ personality shine, which really gives her already animated music a life of its own. It’s hard not to feel full of confidence when Jones’ striking rhymes are motivating you, supported by such a vivacious track.
The outro resonates with a fresh soundscape of bell-like synths and echoing adlibs, building tension through a new chromatic melody. Soaring background vocals mirror the lead melody, weaving through the mix like another instrument in the active arrangement. With an explosive ending, the song leaves listeners craving more, breathless from the sudden drop-off from the bold, striking arrangement.
“Slay” by TL Jones is an undeniable pick-me-up tune, destined to have a spot on every upbeat party playlist. Bursting with dynamic instrumentals and vocals ripe with attitude, “Slay” is the anthem for confidence.
About TL Jones It all started with a book. After writing her first book and being published by a publisher she was over the moon. During her time as an author she was invited to multiple events. It was during these events that she started to connect with Artist and offer her services as a songwriter and manager. She was very successful in both capacities, so much so that she submitted music to a major label to be considered as a songwriter. She was denied saying that none of the songs that she submitted was a hit. Determined to prove them wrong, TL Jones then became an artist. To her surprise, she was welcomes with big arms. RL Jones is a single mother who writes all of her music as well as music for others. She has published four books and has over twenty five songs she has released in just a little under three years. She also been a co-host of talk shows, has had her own talk show at one point, and writes a blog. TL Jones is what you call a jack of all spades. There is nothing that she cannot do.
