Review by Brandon Watts & Staff
Vickie Davies “Essence of You” is a heart-wrenching piano ballad with an absolutely riveting vocal performance that will leave you with goosebumps.
Starting off softly, Davies’ vocals are warm and enticing as she reminisces on a past relationship. Her lyrics paint a vivid picture allowing listeners to take a step in her shoes, each phrase lulling you deeper into the intimate performance.
“I can still smell your cedar and lavender cologne / And feel the reminisce of your tender touch / The way your stubble brushed against my skin / I love the essence of you.”
Davies plays with multiple layers of vocals that add depth, emotion, and lush harmony that help to drive each phrase with purpose. Going through a whirlwind of emotion, Davies leads us through highly dynamic passages where she shows how it feels to be unsure of where to go after losing someone and remembering their heart, soul, and spirit even though they are no longer with you. “When our voices melded together / The world stood still / Our hearts became one for a moment / How I love the essence of you.”
Vickie Davies is songwriter of subtance. With raw and honest lyrics that everyone can relate to and a track filled with artistic nuance for discerning ears, Davies is a true artist. Ebbing and flowing between soft sections with spacious vocals and high impact moments with dense vocals arrangements, Davies is sure to have you enthralled from start to finish.
