The multi-talented singer, songwriter, guitaris and piantist, Mel Monaco is not an artist you’ll want to pass up on. Molding her experiences into lyrical melodies, Mel’s sound is captivating and unique. Mel’s first release, “Anything Goes,” was quickly followed by her project “These Are Just Suggestions”. As an independent artist, Mel captured her fans by releasing the 2016 and 2017 Mel Monaco Pin Up Calendar, both calendars funding projects for Monaco’s music videos, “Single Again” and “Hold Me Back”. Mel is constantly finding new ways to bolster her popularity with fans and fuel her passion for music. With her more recent motivational calendar, Mel shot in a new direction helping to produce her newest music video, “UNTAMEABLE.” She is now preparing for her new project, “Wishing, Waiting, Floating,” set to release in November of this year. As she is constantly coming out with new material, you will definitely want to keep an eye on Mel.

When you are writing a song, where do you draw inspiration from? Or what topics do you like to write or sing about?
Experiences around me. Generally emotional experiences I am connected to. (Happy, Sad, Dramatic etc) Also, visual aesthetics. Sometimes a still image captures me- I become very imaginative and create the backstory (if I don’t already know it).
Okay, this a fun question. When you are not doing music, what else do you enjoy doing?
Running. Hula Hooping. Journaling. Spending Time with family, my boyfriend, friends. <3. Growing my gardens (or trying to- I’m doing okay!) And a little bit of crocheting.
If you were to create your favorite playlist of other artists music, what would your top 3 songs be? And, what artists have influenced your music the most?..
1) If You Want Me To Stay- Sly and The Family Stone 2) You Don’t Know- Leon Bridges 3) Strangers To My Happiness - Sharon Jones I love so many different artists and their music. I would have to say I am just moved by an artists ability to create a feeling. You keep growing and changing and so does the music… right now I would say I’m really into full sounding bands, bring on the congas! Like give me that groove!
Can you tell us what song you've written that is the most emotional and describe the meaning behind it? Emotional doesn't have to mean sad etc., it can be a high energy too...(sad, happy, angry, fear,etc.)
“Time Feel” . It’s a new track I just wrote, releasing on the upcoming EP “Wishing, Waiting, Floating”. I just think “Time Feel” speaks my truth at this point in my life. A lot of thoughts, a lot of paths, all happening at once. Discovering and Making your journey.
What is your dream gig? Is there a gig that you really want that would be the ultimate show for you?
There are a few artists I would love to open for, get to know better, work with- Alabama Shakes would be stellar! But there are also a few TV spots I would love to work with! The Ellen Show! SNL! James Corden! Those would be legendary!
Are you working on any new material right now or what's in the works for the upcoming year?
Totally! “Wishing, Waiting, Floating” new EP releasing this November 2018. I also have a new video in my brain…but I am thinking that wont take place until 2019, but these things take time!
