Almost An Artist - 'The Sound of Summer'

On the first day of summer, June 21, 2019, BWH Music Group released the sizzling hot summer compilation album, That Summer, Vol. 2, by Various Artists. The album offers 16 songs from internationally acclaimed and award-wining independent artists. Almost An Artist’s song "The Sound of Summer" is one of the phenomenal songs featured on the album.

Almost An Artist explains that "The Sound of Summer” is about “the finding of your significant other, as a force and/or energy, that has returned to you after a lengthy hiatus. It is a musical metaphor for enduring the winter, and the feeling of release when you finally find your life partner.” The thoughtful content, both lyrically and musically, is what fans can expect from Almost An Artist.

A blues riff slides by to say a shy hello before the door swings wide open to an exciting and bouncy track in the uplifting song “The Sound of Summer.” With upbeat rhythm guitars strumming energetically to light percussion, Almost An Artist enters singing, “Love is washing over me, warm teardrops from the sun, caressing through the jagged shoreline of my nerves, and, blooming through this reverie, an element of earth, an energy flows back to me; it’s the outline of you.” If Almost An Artist wasn’t a singer, multi-instrumentalist, producer and composer - he could be a poet. You could say he is a true Renaissance man.

Vocally, Almost an Artist has a smooth, relaxing timbre. He lets loose in the bridge section as the arrangement transitions to a harder rocking bridge section before returning to the song’s inner calm. One of Almost An Artist’s gifts is the use of tone painting to express the lyrics. “We’re pulled apart, by this cyclone, spiraling, atomic whirling” is well expressed with composed chaos.Almost An Artist pulls out all the stops in “The Sound of Summer” giving listeners a “The Sound of Summer” is ultimately about getting groove back. It’s an ever-engaging musical journey that starts with a fond memory travels through the winter and finds the warmth of summer again.
