Abijah - 'Global Wilderness'

Review by Daniel Deprè & Staff

“Global Wilderness”, written by Ethan Johnson and performed by Abijah, is a sweet and serene song with a poignant message. Abijah beautifully reflects on the state of the world and how we can’t trust anyone or anything .There is also a strong sense of nature present in “Global Wilderness.” The atmosphere has a very organic sound. All of the instrumental performances are relaxed and restrained, creating a very peaceful and relaxing song. This is a song meant to unite us and make us think, to open our eyes.

Lyrically Abijah is bringing to light the tension and distrust that exists in our modern world. Even the title “Global Wilderness”, perfectly suggests how we all live in a shared wilderness. We should be united but instead we are more polarized than ever before. “The hearts of man have gone cold, who’s going to greet you, when there’s no one beside you.” The lyrics have a soothing back and forth sway to them, where he asks really deep questions while being poetic and creative. “Whose ganna’ see you through, where there’s no one else but you, United Nation don’t have a plan, and pure deception in this religion yeah.”

The arrangement of “Global Wilderness” really provides such a strong and infectious atmosphere. It would thrive in a movie. The song opens up with a rhythmic and lyrical acoustic guitar solo. Immediately the vibe of the song if felt deeply and you get sucked into it’s ambiance. The gently strumming acoustic guitar, bass guitar, and light percussion play the same groove for the whole song, but they aptly create a strong but gentle foundation for Abijah to sing his heart out.

Abijah’s vocals are so raw and full of emotion, you can hear his voice wavering and cracking, bringing to light how personal this song is for him. “Global Wilderness” is a lovely and eye opening song that will make you think while you listen.
