Review by Victoria Scott & Staff
Change your reality and tune out the noise of the world with “Faded” by Almost July. This ethereal and magnetic charged pop song, written by the duo's founder,Skip Glogan, is transcendent.
Deep synthesized bass and whirling melody open up the song. An ambient and ethereal space sound is in the background as the guitar and vocals rush over with a dreamy melody. The use of static sound effects and chill wistful vocals gives the song a euphoric vibe.
Almost July wrote and produced “Faded” during isolation, creating a mood centered song.
Sometimes to move forward, we have to tune out our limited reality. Almost July wrote “Faded” during the spring in isolation, as an escape from the reality that awaited him outside, while holding onto the light of better days.
The atmospheric ambient sound effects underneath the lead vocals progress slowly from verse to chorus. He looks inward and finds a world deep within himself that once existed.
“Up late, blank expressions too long far gone Dream of slow confessions We know, we know. I could have a faceless night or two Or I could live a wasted life with you I could be spaced out the whole way through (grow up, never grow up) Or get faded the next day too (grow up, never grow up).”
Almost July is an innovative group that can take simple rhythms and harmonies and create something masterfully complex. From isolation, Skip Glogan produced and wrote "Faded", a song that feels as though it lives beyond space and time. He is a skilled producer, songwriter, and singer who can transform honest anxieties and frustrations into emotional music. Along with Derek Broomhead on drums, the two musicians create an impressive and expansive, modern pop sound.
About Almost July
New York-based band Almost July is the creation of Skip Glogan, who writes, produces and arranges all of their songs. Their live show has Skip playing keys and fronting the band with a combination of live instruments, samples, and electronics created in Ableton Live.
The band is completed by New York mainstay Derek Broomhead (drums, drum pads). Almost July has made their mark at iconic NYC venues Rockwood Music Hall and Mercury Lounge. During quarantine, they have been avoiding total insanity by collaborating over zoom and live streaming from Skip's home studio.
