Review Written by Ionas Finser & Staff
A tight snare briefly misleads us as Andrea Plamondon’s “Dreams” commences. Within seconds, the big bang occurs and a whole universe of abstract, atmospheric sound rushes to our ears.
Dark oscillating pads, moody synth hits, and an entrancing drum line fill the mix as Plamondon’s crystal clear vocals pierce through the foggy environment around her. Even the vocals are distorted at times, completing the image of a song that seems to have come from a hazy, dreamy state of mind. Not only is “Dreams” out of this world, it seems this stunning work is outside of reality itself.
“Dreams” is a dedication to the magic of imagination and the spiritual world that lies parallel to our everyday, often monotonous lives. The lyrics take the listener on a journey through the nebulous domain of subconsciousness, diving into the depths of life and humanity. Two rapped verses courtesy of Terblelos only add to the mystery of this enigmatic song.
“I saw your picture in the magazine / And I swear boy I have known you. / It’s like deja vu. / What I wouldn’t give to touch you, in a three dimensional world.”
I expect to see Andrea Plamondon’s face in all of the biggest magazines in the near future. Her style is rich and diverse, and this song is a perfect example of the talent and passion Plamondon has cultivated. “Dreams” captures a mood and ideology that is necessary for the many who suffer from the habitually material drone of society. This intense, resonant song can serve to open us up to the abstract side of life, while treating us to beautiful melodies and surprisingly catchy lyrics.
