Art Tawanghar - Peace on Earth

Review by Patrick Joseph & Staff

When the groove drops on “Peace on Earth” it comes as a total pleasant surprise. The verses on this song are sparse and contemplative, so when the chorus comes around and takes no prisoners the listener is totally invested and hyped up by the sound. There is a lot to like about “Peace on Earth,” especially the vocal take and the dynamic peaks, but my favorite part is the way that the drum track continually evolves and creates a story of its own.

“Peace on Earth” is one of those songs where the lyrics and the mood of the music combine in an unexpected way to create a new perspective on an old subject. The alternative messages of hope and despair are highlighted and elevated by an intense and pensive musical arrangement. Listeners are taken to a disheartened place “And in despair I bow my head there is no peace on earth I said for hate is strong and mocks a song of peace on earth” but are then brought to an emotional summit of hope “And the bells are ringing Peace on earth like a choir their singing Peace on earth with our hearts we’ll hear them peace on earth good will to men.”

“Peace on Earth” is the song we need for this holiday season. An intricate sonic landscape composed of complex keyboard tones and ambient percussion sounds create an emotional space which perfectly matches this song’s message. A thunderous groove makes the chorus penetrate into listeners’ minds and demands attention. I love the “call and response” vocals and the emotional journey of the song. “Peace on Earth” is dense and ever-evolving, fresh and inspiring.
