Review by Saya Mochizuki & Staff“
"No one had anything to do when the pandemic hit.” said singer/songwriter Frank Migliorelli, “So I thought I’d call up a few friends and see if they wanted to make a rock n’ roll record- for kids.” The album includes band members from Bruce Springsteen, Hall and Oates, and The Avett Brothers to name a few. From this collaboration, the album 'Wer'e Not Kiddin' Around' was born. Off the album, Harry the Dirty Dog" is sure to be a favorite.
“Harry The Dirty Dog” by Frank Migliorelli is the kind of song that’ll effortlessly put a smile on anyone’s face and bring joy to their day. Opening with an upbeat groove full of organic percussion and lighthearted acoustic guitar strums, the atmosphere feels like walking into a campfire sing-along.
Porter Carroll Jr.'s vocals have a carefree essence and his confidence absolutely shines through, making the tune uplifting and full of life. The addition of vocal ad-libs and whistles thrown in- between sections are perfect additions to the bare arrangement, and contribute to the crowd vocal feel. Intentionally, the instrumentation is smoothly mixed to support Carrol Jr.’s voice, and recreates the nature of a small room live performance that draws listeners in.
The descriptive and humorous lyrics such as “The only thing that makes him sad is a tub and a scrubbing brush” paint a great picture of the dog’s personality.
Undeniably catchy and folk rock inspired, “Harry The Dirty Dog” is refreshing in its genre and knows how to make a simple story fun—and bound to be danced with too. The entire album would be a great add to any family collection or classroom.
