Happy Curmudgeons – '2nd Chances'

Written by Sylvie Marie & Staff

Happy Curmudgeons “2nd Chances” is a Country/Americana ballad about leaving the past behind and moving on with your life to meet someone special to share your experiences with

The song opens with a quick riff on guitar that switches into some rhythmic strumming. Soon, the twangy guitar progression is met with bass and light percussion. The acoustic instrumentation feels organic and down-to-earth. Drawing listeners into the first verse, a warm cello sings melodic phrases, fading out as Amy’s sweet vocals take over singing,

“Well, I don't know where I'm going/but I sure know where I've been/I can promise you one thing /I'm not going back again /Driving down this lonely highway/Listening to the radio/Lord, I've got to change my direction/Got no particular place to go.”

The dynamic arrangement features Amy Dixon-Lavery (lyrics & vocals), Dave Hamilton (music & acoustic guitar), Jeff Warner (guitar), Takashi Iio (bass), Rick Beamon (drums), Jim MOOSE Brown (from the Bob Seger Band - Hammond B3), Mark Byerly (from the Bob Seger Band - keyboards, string arrangement) , David Patton (violin), Chaz Owsley (cello), Cathleen Wiley (backing vocals) and Laura Creamer & Barbara Payton (from the Bob Seger Band - backing vocals).

Each element of the mix works together to make a compelling soundscape with ear-catching accents from keys shifting in the background, to electric guitar solos with tight instrumental grooves. The cello solos are very moving, adding a beautiful voice to the arrangement.

Happy Curmudgeons “2nd Chances” is a beautifully written and performed song. Amy sings with soul, the arrangement is captivating and the message, that time can heal all wounds, is as sweet and reassuring as the music itself. The Happy Curmudgeons deliver with authentically soulful and sweet music for the soul.
