Happy Curmudgeons - "Rustic Glory"

Review by Dylan Lloyd

"Rustic Glory" by Happy Curmudgeons is a modern folk rock tune that brings a smile to the face of anyone listening to this song. The warm vocals bring a comforting sound that powerfully conveys the reflection of fond memories in the lyrics. The rhythm section also plays toward that soothing sound in this song with the tame and rounded sonic picture created with the acoustic guitars, bass, drums, and the organ on this track.

Lyrically, this song is about remembering someone and looking back on the moments you both created together. Written as a tribute to his late father, the lyricist Dave Hamilton shows raw emotions of father-son love in this record with the heartfelt lyrics and his performance. The song starts with the line, "I woke up this morning, thinking just about you, all those things we used to do," which sets the stage for the lyrical reflection on this song.

"And all those stories, and the rustic glory, remain deep within my heart... I reflect on a time, peaceful and serene. I know you know what I mean, and I sure do miss ya. Still can hear your voice."

Though these lyrics pull on the listener's heartstrings, they do so in a way that positively looks back on these fond memories.

Overall, "Rustic Glory" by Happy Curmudgeons is a nostalgic folk rock song that reflects on the past with deep passion. It is a perfect song for any listener looking to get comfortable with their feelings and think about the memories they have created with others.
