Review by Sylvie Marie & Staff
A jazzy and colorul upbeat tapestry of sound commences Jay "Blue Jays" Jourden "Mystic Lovers." Horns play their tuneful hearts to smooth melodic motifs that echo the vocals with clearly articulated accents over crisp percussion and mellow keys.
Musical interludes hand the mic to the keyboard and horn players who take playful solos that sing joyfully. Nice and easy background vocals add dimension. With a freestyle vibe reminiscent of Van Morrison, "Mystic Lovers" fuses jazz, pop, R & B and folk to transcend genre for a universal appeal.
Lyrically, "Mystic Lovers", is a romantic love song coming from a poet's heart. "My song on the wind, up where the eagles fly. Rainbows, sun, and moonlight, the tapestry of her hair." Jay "Blue Jay Jourden" sings the lyrics with a voice that is full of the earth, natural and rich. He uses dynamics very well, building those special moments up with a robust vocal sound. "Hold on hold, on hold on, And never let go.... " The hook of "Mystic Lovers" pops off the page.
"It's your Mystic Lover
Lover of light
Dream Ridin Lover
Holdin the night
Your Mystic Lover
Doin what's right night after night
Your Mystic Lover holdin you tight....."
In "Mystic Lovers", Jay "Blue Jay" Jourden fuses a tapestry of sound to delight the discerning ear. Using poetic lyrics, he beautifully captures the mystery and magic of love. "Mystic Lovers" transcends genre and generation with a song that falls into the that very special category of "timeless."
