Léonie Gray (ft. Matthew J. Bongiorno) - 'Who Will Stop the Nuclear Clock?'

Review Written by Ionas Finser & Staff

“Who Will Stop the Nuclear Clock” opens with deceptively lighthearted guitar chords, but suspense is growing. The song suddenly modulates to the parallel minor key to begin the first verse, and illuminates a vital message: while we go about our lighthearted, everyday lives, imminent catastrophe is looming behind closed doors.

The masterful beat played throughout this powerful song is almost hazy and dystopian, and compliments Léonie Gray’s lush, silky vocals. Big props to producer Bruno B. Valleungs for his intelligent, artistic elements.

The message of this song revolves around the issue of Nuclear War, and its underestimated reality in our world today. Léonie Gray’s crystal voice does a fantastic job highlighting the urgency of this matter, and pairs perfectly with the instrumentals underneath.

“Who will stop the nuclear clock? / Who’ll guarantee the setting sun? / Who will stop the nuclear clock? / Who’ll turn back the hands of the clock?”

Another highlight is the inclusion of a spoken narration through the middle of the song. This narration adds to the overcast atmosphere, and keeps focus on the main themes of the song.

Léonie Gray’s “Who Will Stop the Nuclear Clock” may be a song of inspiration and activism, but that doesn’t stop it from being melodic and catchy. Who knows how long the wait for the nuclear clock will be, but one thing is for sure: the wait for complete stardom is almost over when it comes to Léonie Gray and Bruno B. Valleungs.
