Meghan Cary - 'River Rock'

Review Written by Victoria Scott

Music can influence, and even change, people, movements, and society. Sharing songs about peace and social justice, will ultimately remind the world of the importance of fairness, love and unity. Meghan Cary's song "River Rock" is one of the amazing songs that will be featured on this special radio program.

Meghan Cary’s inspiring folk anthem “River Rock” from the album Sing Louder is bold and robust. Meghan’s booming vocals hit hard easily rising over the song's tight drum groove and upbeat piano. Bob Beach on keys plays a bright melody as Peter Farrell wails on the harmonica over the bumping drum riffs. Production on “River Rock” is crisp d with a live sound that emphasizes Meghan’s country-folk style and powerhouse vocals.

“River Rock” is about living boldly and stepping into your power. The song sparked a movement, "The River Rock Project", that uses music to fight for equal rights and get out the vote. We should all speak our truth and stand up for what we believe in and, like a rock in a river, we can stand our ground through these rough currents.

"I am a river rock tumbled smooth By the rush of life, this life I choose Every step along the way I made my own choice I tried to choose the truth That's how I found my voice."

Meghan Cary’s upbeat folk-rock style is soulful and dynamic. Her bellowing voice rushes over you like a wave, and the piano and harmonica give the song a down home feel that draws you into the music and message. “River Rock” is eye-opening and empowering. With smoothness and edges, "River Rock" stands firm for the choice to live your life on your terms.

About Meghan Cary Named a Billboard “Critic’s Choice” artist after the release of her seminal debut release New Shoes, Singer-Songwriter/Author/Activist MeghanCary has made it her life’s work to empower others to speak their Truth by bravely sharing her own. The stage actress turned folk rock powerhouse found solace in words and music after her fiancé unexpectedly passed away – and turned that passion into a platform for inspiring others to “raise their voices”.

Cary is, indeed, affecting change through her work. Her latest album Sing Louder, which has been heralded as a battle cry for equality, justice and authentic connection, not only reached commercial success as a top 10 release but also featured the women’s empowerment anthem, “River Rock”, of the newly-launched River Rock Project. The River Rock Project honors a century of progress since women won the right to vote, to be heard. It harnesses the energy of that celebration to inspire continued action toward achieving economic, political and social equality for all.

Cary is also instrumental in helping her peers find their Truth through her one-on-one coaching and mentoring programs, as well as her work with the Philadelphia Folksong Society (as a workshop facilitator, as well as a performer), Philadelphia Songwriter’s Circle, NERFA (Northeast Regional Folk Alliance), SERFA (Southeast Regional Folk Alliance), FAI (Folk Alliance International), SAG-AFTRA (Screen Actors Guild - American Federation of Television and Radio Artists), AEA (Actor’s Equity Association) and DGA (Dramatist Guild of America). Through her art, activism and passion for lifting up others and helping them “raise their voices,” Cary has proven that no one’s story is ever fully written. There is always a way to re-write the narrative.
