Review by Daniel Deprè & Staff
Happy Birthday! What a fun song “Blow Those Candles Out” is. It has such a jovial and wonderfully youthful spirit to it. It’s filled to the brim with positivity; this is the type of song to really make a birthday feel even more special. Livened up by lots of fun rhythms, you’ll feel like you’re on an island in the sun having the time of your life. This song brings to mind the stylings of Jimmy Buffett and The Beach Boys but sung with Mick J. Clarks unique voice.
Right away the song begins as a ray of sunshine, starting with strumming acoustic guitar and really dynamic bongo playing. The percussion and rhythmic strumming from the acoustic guitar are largely responsible for the island vibe of the song. A really buoyant bass combined with simple but momentous drums give this song a driving force. Mick J. Clark's vocals are impeccably balanced with really angelic background vocals in the chorus. They provide a new color which helps make the chorus really special.
The lyrics are all about making you feel special on your big day. Clark Sings the lyrics with such confidence that they never feel silly or cheesy. There is the perfect balance of happiness and poetic writing to make this a fun song to sing along to. “Happy Birthday to you, everybody sings out loud, as you blow those candles out.” Clark also references how on your birthday it feels like everyone in the world is calling you on your special day. “Postman calls, the phone is ringing, like friends and family do, with everyone singing, happy birthday to you,” “Blow Those Candles Out” is one of the happiest songs you’ll ever hear and it’s perfect to play at the next birthday party you attend.
