Nicki Kris – ‘Stay’

Review By Matt Wong & Staff

“Stay” is a song by the dynamic, award-winning pop singer/songwriter Nicki Kris. The song begins with a lone electric guitar playing a groovy, rhythmic arpeggiated hook supported by electronic snare hits on the back beats. Nicki’s mesmerizing, sultry vocals enter on the first verse, at first with a hum, then on the lyrics, along with a doubled acoustic guitar, which reinforces the electric part without doubling it.

Halfway through the first verse, the electric guitar begins to add momentum to the arrangement in anticipation of the chorus by playing more rhythmically dense material. Moving the chorus full steam ahead, the bass and full drums enter. The arrangement is well-conceived and the build it pop perfect. The song’s infectious groove continues creating a song you can move your body to. In the second chorus, the song continues to offer listeners fresh sonic elements with the introduction of a second electric guitar part. the song is so freshly arranged; there is never a dull moment.

The lyrics in “Stay” tell the story of a clandestine love affair. In addition to the stellar arrangement, listeners experience a catchy pop and dance song through lyrics such as “With just one look, you’ve got me hypnotized” and “A simple touch and I’m completely paralyzed.” The lyrics are fun, sexy, and appealing.

“Stay” by Nicki Kris is a phenomenal song demonstrating that a memorable hook with a killer groove always shines. Nicki is an outstanding vocalist, an intelligent songwriter, and she processes all the qualities of a polished pop star. Shout out to Kevin McNoldy on a fantastic production.
