Robert Flynn - 'Night of The Living Dead'

Updated: Aug 26, 2021

Review by Daniel Deprè & Staff

“Night of The Living Dead” is a bright and upbeat jam with dark overtones and an important message. The stylings and instrumentation call upon 70’s rock bands, and the use of the organ really gives this song a slightly psychedelic edge. The instrumentation breathes a lot of life into the track, creating a very fun and vibrant sonic playground.

Lyrically, Robert Flynn is reflecting on the riots that occurred here in the U.S. during the summer of 2020. His lyrics aptly show that change is necessary, but change shouldn’t happen through violence.

“All broken glass, rubble and trash, a war zone of fire and smoke, is this what you wanted? Why are you haunted?”

For many, this was a truly scary time, and Robert Flynn draws comparisons to the Night of The Living Dead to manifest that fear within his lyrics.

“If you let the Devil crawl up inside your head, he’ll steal all your light, and bring on the Night of The Living Dead.”

The instrumentation of “Night of The Living Dead” is wonderfully chaotic and groovy. Featuring the classic 70’s rock instruments, the organ brings a unique layer to the sound. The music stylings here almost call upon the sound of The Cars combined with Meatloaf.

Robert Flynn’s vocals have a rare and raw quality to them. His singing style is casual and more approachable. This fits the lyrics as he is really trying to make a strong point here and singing directly to the listener. “Night of The Living Dead” is a meaningful rock jam with captivating lyrics and vibrant musicianship by Robert Flynn.
