Review by Patrick Joseph & Staff
“Fallin’” is a fresh take on indie rock/modern Americana. A driving, energetic track with eclectic influences, this is a song that occupies new space but still feels familiar. This song has attitude right out of the gate with a jazzy trumpet intro blowing over a rock rhythm section. A two chord verse allows the song to establish an identity and creates a bedrock for Hughes’s rhythmic, catchy vocal melodies. A rawness is achieved in the verses by virtue of acoustic guitar strumming along with high energy drums. This transitions nicely into the energetic choruses which feature sustained chords supported by a horn section.
Lyrically, “Fallin’” tells a tale as old as time. Human beings fall for each other, and “Fallin’” reminds us of the ins and outs. “Oh it's bad, love is stark raving man.” Shayne delivers these lyrics with a believability and sensitivity. “The lust in your eyes can’t stay quiet, You and I bit the dust.” As most of us can attest, these things are rarely without turbulence. “Love is Fallin’ baby…”
“Fallin’” boasts a “Songwriters arrangement” with pre-choruses sandwiched in between verses creating a kind of musical narrative which meshes nicely with the lyrics. Listeners will appreciate the unique vision of this track, expressing its point of view clearly and with style. Dusty's vocals shine on this track, demonstrating versatility through sections and building towards a gritty ending. The band is tight and arrangements are effective in supporting the song. Catchy and fun, make sure to give “Fallin’” a listen.
