Wachman - 'Can't Find My Way Home' (Original by Steve Winwood)

'Can't Find My Way Home' was written by Steve Winwood and released by Blind Faith on their 1969 self-titled album. The song is about finding your way back to home (to music) by coming down from your thrown (releasing the rock God the music industry wants you to be) and cleaning your body from drugs and toxic energy. It seems fitting that independent recording artist Wachman would release a cover song that is all about being true to yourself as an artist. "Can't Find My Way Home" has been covered by dozens of A-line artists over the years and Wachman's version is one of the best. Perhaps it is because Wachman truly feels the meaning of the song. He captures it's essence brilliantly.

Starting with a single repeated note on the piano, Wachman sets a melancholy and haunting mood. He creates a mesmerizing introduction that draws you in. As the music progresses, Wachman adds piano counterpoint for an engaging weave. Soon a deep cello enters and blooms into rich orchestration. The strings wash over you like waves of heart and soul hitting the shore. The final touch is a light rock percussion that gives the song a nice contemporary groove. Wachman's emotional performance will appeal to the masses while his intricate arrangements will please the most discerning ears.

The icing on the cake is Wachman's vocal performance which hits it out of the ballpark. With the soulfulness of artists like Hozier, Wachman has an impressive vocal range and an extraordinary gift for nuanced expression. "Come down off your throne and leave your body alone. Somebody must change. You are the reason I've been waiting all these years."

In "Can't Find My Way Home," Wachman finds his way home - to brilliant music - where he has lived all along and he does so with an arrangement and vocal performance of the highest caliber - Wachman's cover of "Can't Find My Way Home" is as good as it gets.
